Non-Gaussian Noise Suppression and its Application to Power-Line Communications
نویسندگان
چکیده
%en a power-line is used as the transmission medium, the information-bearing waveform is usually subjected to high levels of non-Gaussian noise and interference. As a result, direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) is a common choice for the signalling format. The power-line channel, however, is power and bandwidth limited, so as not to interfere with electrical equipment. Consequently, this has the overall efJkct of limiting the attainable processing gain of power-line based DSSS communication systems. Interference mitigation strategies, therefore, have to be included within the system architecture to attain the low bit error rates required by emerging power-line applications. In this paper, we detail a mathematical framework, using joint timePequency analysis, for effective mitigation of non-Gaussian noise and inteverence. Following this) we propose two preprocessing techniques which complement the processing gain of a DSSS system by discriminating between the information-bearing signal and inteflerence, and then works to suppress the interfevence prior to despreading.

Estimation of harmonic interference parameters of surface-NMR signal using an adaptive method and residual signal power
Surface nuclear magnetic resonance (surface-NMR) method is a well-known tool for determining the water-bearing layers and subsurface resistivity structure. Harmonic interference is an inevitable interference in surface-NMR measurements. Accurate estimation of harmonic interference parameters (i.e., fundamental frequency, phase and amplitude) leads to better retrieval of power-line harmonics and...
متن کاملBounds on the Capacity of MIMO Broadband Power Line Communications Channels - Full Version
Communications over power lines in the frequency range above 2 MHz, commonly referred to as broadband (BB) power line communications (PLC), is a central communications scenario for smart power grids. BB-PLC channels are characterized by a dominant colored non-Gaussian additive noise, as well as by periodic variations of the channel impulse response and the noise statistics, induced by the mains...

This chapter digs into the secrecy provided and guaranteed at the physical layer, named physical layer security (PLS), over power line communication (PLC) channels for in-home networks. The PLC scenario peculiarities are briefly discussed in terms of channel characteristics and noise features. The effects of the channel properties on the performance are evaluated, in terms of the achievable sec...
متن کاملNarrow-Band Interference Suppression in Spread-Spectrum CDMA Communications Using Pipelined Recurrent Neural Networks
This paper investigates the application of pipelined recurrent neural networks (PRNN’s) to the narrow-band interference (NBI) suppression over spread-spectrum (SS) code-division multiple-access (CDMA) channels in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) plus non-Gaussian observation noise. Optimal detectors and receivers for such channels are no longer linear. A PRNN that consists o...
متن کاملSpeech Enhancement Using Gaussian Mixture Models, Explicit Bayesian Estimation and Wiener Filtering
Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) of power spectral densities of speech and noise are used with explicit Bayesian estimations in Wiener filtering of noisy speech. No assumption is made on the nature or stationarity of the noise. No voice activity detection (VAD) or any other means is employed to estimate the input SNR. The GMM mean vectors are used to form sets of over-determined system of equatio...
